MYOPTICON
October 6, 2007 - December 29, 2007
Bowling Green Park, NYC
Exhibited as part of  Art in the Parks: Celebrating 40 Years of Art

Informal reception in the park:  Friday November 16, 2007 at dusk
Check back for alternate dates in the event of inclement weather.

A thermal imaging system in the guise of a common coin-op tourist attraction is installed in Manhattan's Bowling Green Park.
The thermal imaging device is directed toward the United States Custom House, now home to the Museum of the American Indian.
MYOPTICON constructs an image consisting only of the infrared radiation emitted by all objects as a function of surface temperature.
The viewing device sees just as well in pitch blackness and fog as in broad daylight, rendering camouflage and the cover of night obsolete.

QUICKTIME MYOPTICON CLIPS:  K-9 UNIT WITH HERCULES TEAMGIRL SMOKING,  SQUIRREL IN TREE

Made possible in part by a grant from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the September 11th Fund.
Additional support provided by New York Foundation for the Arts and Eyebeam.
